Is Ice Cream good or bad?

My grandpa and grandma used to assume that ice-cream is only an ice-up milk product. And, milk to them is nutritious. In this case, ice-cream will not be harmful to our body.
However, they just don’t know that nowadays ice cream can be made out of vegetable oils or non-dairy creamer. They might no longer derived from fresh milk.
Worst still, most the icy creamy ice cream in the market today contain :
1) emulsifiers — to maintain the desired structure and texture
2) thickeners — to enhance the smooth texture
3) colors — to enhance visual appeals
4) flavours and sweeteners — to enrich the taste
Also, watch out for the calories in ice cream.
Calories in 100g of Ice Cream = 3x or 4x Calories in 100g of milk
Obviously ice cream is quite fattening. It’s easier for you to manage your weight if you can cut down your ice cream intake.

good thing i’m not really an ice cream girl =)
LOL! So lucky! Too bad that me myself is so into ice cream.
November 29th, 2007 at 1:33 pmI tried making ice-cream before and it’s really good provided you can find the required ingredients. I got a cheap Kenwood 1 litre Ice cream maker for RM 199, 4 years ago and it never failed me. Only problem I faced was the shortage of Fresh Cream or Thickened Cream. Before I owned the machine, I used the traditional way for gelato & Sorbet
I can assured you when you made your own… the ones in powder or claimed to be Italian are no match because you use best ingredients and freshest for your family.
My hubby is fussy when comes to Ice-creams… we tried from Maxim’s, Lecha, Lecha (now defunct) to Gelatomio (operated by Italian guy resided in Malaysia) and of course not forgetting Häagen-Dazs. He still prefers homemade or the gelaterias back home.
I love all the ice-creams; creamy, sorbet or yoghurt. I don’t bother about the calories as I don’t make a lot
Don’t we deserve the best?:-) Of course, you can always use low-fat cream/milk and choose sweet ripe fruits or natural sweetener like Stevia, to cut down the sugar.
